Picking a dumpster size is mostly common sense once you know one thing the rental sites gloss over: with a lot of Waldorf debris, weight fills the container before volume does. Here's how the four sizes compare and how to choose.
The four sizes at a glance
We run 10, 15, 20 and 30 yard roll-offs. The 10 and 15 yard suit small remodels, single-room or garage cleanouts and heavy debris. The 20 yard is the all-rounder for a mid-size remodel or a big household clear-out. The 30 yard handles new construction, whole-house cleanouts and big roofing tear-offs.
The number is cubic yards of volume - but volume is only half the story here.
Why weight decides more than you'd think
Concrete, brick, clay fill and shingles are dense. A 30 yard box filled with concrete would weigh far more than a truck can legally lift, so heavy material goes in a small 10 yard sized to weight, not volume.
Waldorf's heavy clay ground is the local version of this - a footing dig on the Coastal Plain fills a small box with wet clay while it still looks half empty. When in doubt on a heavy job, smaller is right.
Matching size to the job
Bathroom or single room: 10 yard. Kitchen or a couple of rooms: 15 yard. Whole-house declutter, flooring tear-out or a mid-size remodel: 20 yard. New construction, a large addition or a full-house cleanout: 30 yard.
Roofing is its own case - shingles are heavy, so even a big roof usually goes in a 10 or 15 yard rather than a large box that would go overweight.
When to size down, not up
It's tempting to get the biggest box for peace of mind, but if the material is heavy you'll hit the weight limit long before you fill it - and pay an overweight charge for the privilege. A smaller box filled properly is cheaper.
For mixed jobs we sometimes set two boxes - one for heavy debris, one for light - so neither goes overweight and nothing's wasted.
Still not sure?
Tell us what you're clearing and roughly how much, and whether it's heavy or bulky-and-light. Those two answers point straight to the right size.
We'd rather spend two minutes on the phone getting it right than have you pay for the wrong box or need a second haul.

What's the most popular size?
The 20 yard is the all-rounder for most remodels and big cleanouts. But for heavy debris - concrete, brick, clay fill, shingles - a smaller box sized to weight is the right call.
What size for a roof tear-off?
Usually a 10 or 15 yard. Shingles are heavy enough that a big box would go overweight before it filled. Tell us the roof area and layer count and we'll size it.
Can I get two dumpsters?
Yes. For a mixed job we often set one box for heavy debris and one for light material so neither goes overweight - it's frequently cheaper than one overloaded box.
What if I pick wrong?
Call and we'll help before you book. If a job outgrows the box, one call brings a swap - but getting the size right first time saves you the second haul.
